Again, Akpabio Assures Tinubu of National Assembly’s Full Backing, Predicts End to Insecurity
Sunday Aborisade in Abuja
The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has declared that President Bola Tinubu possesses the “sight and vision” required to transform Nigeria, as he rallied support for the administration’s sweeping reforms and growing political dominance.
Speaking at the 2026 National Convention of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at Eagle Square, Abuja, Akpabio said the Tinubu administration’s record of “good governance” was driving an unprecedented wave of political realignments into the party.
“What is attracting all of us to the APC today is good governance,” Akpabio told party faithful and delegates, citing key policy decisions such as the removal of fuel subsidy, exchange rate harmonisation, and reforms in education and agriculture.
He noted that the administration’s student loan initiative had expanded access to tertiary education for underprivileged Nigerians, while ongoing infrastructure projects, particularly rail development and the long-anticipated coastal road, were unlocking economic opportunities across regions.
“In you, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, from what you have done transforming Lagos and building leaders across the country, you are one man who has sight and also has vision, and you are translating it to Nigeria. Nigerians are yet to see the best of you,” Akpabio declared.
The Senate President acknowledged the economic challenges inherited by the administration but maintained that the President was steadily reversing the tide through fiscal and structural reforms, including tax policy changes and renewed global engagement.
He pointed to Tinubu’s recent diplomatic outreach, including a high-profile visit to the United Kingdom after decades, as evidence that Nigeria was regaining its standing on the global stage.
Akpabio also highlighted the APC’s expanding political influence, revealing that the party now controls 32 states and is still growing, up from about 18 states previously.
“By election day, we may have 36 out of 36,” he said, underscoring confidence in the party’s electoral prospects.
As Chairman of the National Assembly, Akpabio pledged unwavering legislative support for the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, stressing that harmony between the executive and legislature would accelerate national development.
“For those of us in the legislature, be assured of our continuous support and cooperation. When the National Assembly is stable and aligned with your agenda,
Nigeria will see progress,” he said.
On security, Akpabio assured Nigerians that the current challenges would soon be overcome, expressing confidence in the President’s strategy and leadership.
“With the ingenuity of our President and the support of Nigerians, the insecurity you see today will soon be a thing of the past,” he added.
