In an era where financial technology continues to transform how individuals and businesses
access financial services, strong governance and regulatory compliance have become critical pillars of trust, stability, and sustainable growth. For Odunayo Omolewu, a compliance professional whose career has been dedicated to strengthening those pillars, that commitment has now earned continental recognition.

Odunayo Omolewu, Head of Compliance at Rove VV Technology and Innovation Limited, has been honoured with the Fintech Governance and Compliance Excellence Award at the Crest Africa Awards 2026, in recognition of her contributions to regulatory compliance, financial crime prevention, risk management, and governance within the fintech sector.

The award recognizes professionals whose work has contributed significantly to strengthening accountability, transparency, and regulatory excellence while supporting innovation across Africa’s evolving financial technology ecosystem.

With more than a decade of experience spanning financial services, banking, taxation, compliance, and fintech, Odunayo has built a reputation for helping organizations navigate increasingly complex regulatory environments while maintaining operational efficiency and customer trust.

At Rove VV Technology and Innovation Limited, she has led the development and implementation of compliance frameworks covering Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Know Your Customer (KYC), data privacy, consumer protection, and broader risk management obligations. Her work has helped establish systems and controls designed to protect both the organization and its customers while ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

One of her most notable achievements has been the development and implementation of a comprehensive AML compliance architecture that strengthened transaction monitoring, improved suspicious activity detection, and enhanced overall risk management capabilities within the organization.

Reflecting on the recognition, Odunayo said the award represents the collective efforts of professionals who work daily to safeguard the integrity of financial systems.

“Compliance is often viewed as a behind-the-scenes function, but its impact reaches every customer, institution, and transaction. This recognition highlights the importance of building trust, accountability, and resilience into the foundation of financial innovation,” she said.

According to Odunayo, the future of compliance will increasingly depend on how organizations balance innovation with responsibility.

“Technology is transforming the financial industry at an unprecedented pace. As innovation accelerates, compliance must evolve alongside it to ensure that growth is sustainable, ethical, and aligned with the expectations of regulators, customers, and society,” she said.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Odunayo remains committed to mentorship and community development. Through initiatives such as the EDIKE Development Support Foundation volunteering platform, she contributes to empowering and supporting the next generation of female professionals pursuing careers in finance, compliance, and leadership.

She believes that building stronger institutions requires investing in people as much as systems.

“One of the most rewarding aspects of my journey has been supporting and mentoring others. The future of our industry depends on developing ethical, knowledgeable, and capable professionals who will continue strengthening governance and accountability across the financial ecosystem,” she said.

Odunayo holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a Master’s degree in Business with Financial Management from Northumbria University, Newcastle. She is a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist and a member of the Compliance Association of Nigeria.

The Crest Africa Awards recognize professionals, executives, entrepreneurs, and industry leaders whose work demonstrates measurable impact and sustained excellence across various sectors. Odunayo Omolewu was selected for the Fintech Governance and Compliance Excellence Award following a rigorous evaluation process conducted by the Crest Africa Awards Panel and an independent judging panel comprising respected professionals from media, technology, strategy, and business leadership.
