Violence Erupts in Osun Over Allegations Against Royal Family Member’s Wife
Tension erupted in parts of Osun State following violent protests linked to allegations against Olufunmilayo Mojisola Ogungbangbe, whose whereabouts remain unknown after unrest in Ilesha and Osogbo on March 10, 2026.
Father of the woman, Mr. Adeleke, raised alarm over attacks allegedly targeted at his daughter and members of their family during the disturbances.
According to reports, protesting youths in Ilesha accused Olufunmilayo, who is married to a brother of a traditional ruler in the town, of engaging in same-sex relationships, an act they claimed violates the customs and traditions of the community.
A spokesperson for the protesting youths reportedly argued that the allegations were particularly sensitive because her husband belongs to the royal family, described as custodians of the people’s traditions. The group also referenced the political ambitions of another member of the family within the senatorial district.
Some protesters, who declined to be identified, alleged that Olufunmilayo may have fled with a female companion and demanded that authorities arrest and prosecute her. They also warned against what they described as attempts to shield her from justice.
The protest later turned violent, with reports of assaults on residents and looting of shops by hoodlums during the unrest.
In a related incident in Osogbo on the same day, eyewitnesses alleged that violence broke out during what was initially presented as a protest.
According to an anonymous witness, the attack appeared to target members of Olufunmilayo’s family.
The witness claimed that the home of her father was vandalized by rampaging youths, while Mr. Adeleke reportedly sustained injuries during the attack.
Efforts to reach officials of the Osun State government for comments on the incidents were unsuccessful as of the time this report was filed.
Some residents and eyewitnesses alleged that political interests may be connected to the unrest, claiming influential figures were backing the attacks, although no evidence has been officially presented to support the allegations.
As of press time, the whereabouts of Olufunmilayo Mojisola Ogungbangbe remained unknown.
