In a grand celebration of four decades of service, the Rotary Club of Akowonjo recently commemorated its 40th anniversary with a theme that resonated deeply with its members: “Four Decades to Honour the Past and Inspire the Future”.
The event, held at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, was a proud reflection of the club’s unwavering commitment to making a difference in the community.
As the club’s 40th President, Rotarian David Amowie Aimuihenyefe reflected on the journey so far and couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude.
“I am the 40th President of Rotary Club of Akowonjo,” he said with a smile. “This event is a milestone, especially appreciating the past years. It’s a celebration of the sacrifices, the hard work, and the dedication of our members who have come before us.”
The club has indeed come a long way, with only one active member having served for 40 years. Many others have contributed their sweat, blood, resources, and time to make a lasting impact. “We paid the price, we sweated, we bled, we gave our resources, and we gave our time,” Rotarian Aimuihenyefe said, his voice filled with emotion. “And today, we say thank you to those who paved the way for us. We honor their legacy, and we inspire the next generation to continue the work.”
The club’s vision for the future is ambitious – to establish a vocational center that will serve as a hub for skills development and community empowerment. With a fundraising target of 250 million naira, the club is determined to make this dream a reality. “Our goal is to have a dedicated place where we can do multiple programmes,” Rotarian Aimuihenyefe explained. “So that we can continue to serve the community and make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.”
As the Rotary Club of Akowonjo looks to the future, its members are united in their commitment to service, growth, and excellence. The club’s United President is optimistic about the future, envisioning a mega club that undertakes bolder, bigger projects and gives back to the community in even more meaningful ways.
“It’s time to revisit the model that is being used to form clubs,” he urged fellow Rotarians. “Let’s recommit ourselves to making a difference and inspiring others to do the same. Let’s continue to grow our membership, and let’s continue to serve our community with passion and purpose.”
Rotarian Aimuihenyefe also expressed his gratitude to the club’s members, saying, “I want to thank all our members who have contributed to this journey. Your dedication, hard work, and commitment to service make our club great. Let’s continue to work together to make a difference in the world.”
As the celebration came to a close, the Rotary Club of Akowonjo’s members looked forward to the next chapter of their journey, ready to take on new challenges and continue making a lasting impact in their community.
