Otovwodo Flyover: Contract Confirms Julius Berger’s Engineering Leadership, Says MD

The Managing Director of Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, Engr. Dr. Peer Lubasch, has described the Otovwodo Flyover project in Ughelli, Delta State, as a clear validation of the company’s technical expertise, delivery capacity and long-standing partnership with the state government.

Speaking at the official flag-off ceremony of the project by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, Lubasch expressed profound appreciation for the confidence reposed in Julius Berger, stressing that the contract represents more than a construction mandate.
“We sincerely thank the Delta State Government for the confidence shown in Julius Berger by awarding us this significant contract. We do not take this trust for granted. To us, this award is not just a contract; it is a validation of our technical competence and a testament to the strong partnership between our company and this great state,” a statement from the construction company quoted him to have said.

Lubasch commended Oborevwori’s infrastructure-driven vision under the M.O.R.E. Agenda, describing it as a bold and people-centred roadmap for sustainable development. He noted that Julius Berger is proud to be a partner of choice in delivering projects that address critical urban challenges and unlock economic growth.

Building on its track record of delivering landmark roads and flyovers in Warri and other parts of Delta State, the Julius Berger Managing Director said the company was eager to extend the transformation to Ughelli through the Otovwodo Flyover project.

According to him, the project comprises a 15-span flyover designed as a two-lane dual carriageway, complete with a roundabout, connecting road network, purpose-built drainage systems and modern solar-powered street lighting. He assured that the project would be executed to the highest standards of quality, safety and efficiency.

“At Julius Berger, we are committed to delivering projects that stand the test of time. Our teams work diligently to ensure timely completion while minimising disruption to daily life. We count on the cooperation and support of the host communities and the good people of Delta State to help us deliver a project that will serve generations to come,” Lubasch added.

Oborevwori, while flagging off the project amid fanfare, described the flyover as a permanent solution to the chronic traffic congestion at the Otovwodo Junction along the East–West Road, one of the busiest corridors in the state. He noted that rapid population growth in Ughelli North had overstretched existing road infrastructure, turning the junction into a major bottleneck.

The Otovwodo Flyover project, valued at N39.3 billion, is expected to be completed within 12 months. It is designed to significantly reduce travel time, enhance road safety, improve connectivity between urban and rural communities, and stimulate economic activities across the region.

The colourful ceremony, which drew large crowds and had the atmosphere of a carnival, was attended by royal fathers, community leaders, members of the Delta State Executive Council, the State House of Assembly, as well as Senators and members of the House of Representatives from Delta State. The Julius Berger delegation at the event included the Regional Manager, South and East, Engr. Friedrich Wieser, and the Project Manager, Engr. Thomas Haug, among other senior officials.
