The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Bauchi State chapter has expressed surprise and concern over allegations of terrorism financing against the state Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed.

As contained in a statement jointly signed by the CAN Chairman, Rev. Dr. Abraham Damina Dimeus and Secretary, Rev. Matthew Wakili Laslimbo, which was made available to journalists yesterday the CAN called for caution in the ongoing prosecution of the state’s Finance Commissioner by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

CAN described the claims as “baseless, malicious, and an affront to truth,” citing the governor’s commitment to inter-faith harmony, peace, and security in Bauchi State.

They highlighted Governor Mohammed’s support for Christian institutions and events, and his efforts to promote unity and development.

They further described the allegations as politically motivated and an attempt to tarnish the governor’s image.

The duo reaffirmed their trust in his leadership and urge the public to disregard the false claims.

“Ordinarily and as a religious body, that has no affiliation with politics or political activities, we would have kept quiet and watched as things went by. But, as citizens of Nigeria and residents of Bauchi State, it is our responsibility to state what we know and be sure of,” the statement disclosed.

According to CAN, “As much as we are not challenging any authority over its functions and responsibilities, we are of the opinion that caution needs to be applied in situations in order not to make matters worse.”

CAN then urged the public to disregard the false claims and stand with Governor Mohammed as he continues to serve Bauchi State with dedication.
