The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has seized a total of 2,473.755 kilograms of illicit drugs and arrested 1,018 suspects across the state in the past year.
The State NDLEA Commander, CN Samaila Danmallam, disclosed this on Tuesday during the command’s 2025 end-of-year press conference and promotion ceremony of 61 officers held in Katsina.
Danmallam said the seized drugs comprised 1,667.747 kilogrammes of cannabis, 12.348 kilogrammes of codeine, and 793.66 kilogrammes of psychotropic substances intercepted in various operations across the state.
According to him, a total of 1,018 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures, including 992 males and 26 females.
He added that within the period under review, the command successfully secured the conviction of 87 drug peddlers and users, while 451 clients were counselled and 58 rehabilitated as part of its intensified campaign against drug abuse.
The NDLEA commander further disclosed the command carried out 203 sensitisation programmes in schools and other social gatherings, reaching no fewer than 75,135 beneficiaries across the state.
Danmallam attributed the achievements recorded to intelligence-led raid operations and sustained patrols by NDLEA operatives across the nooks and crannies of Katsina State.
However, he appealed to the Katsina State Government to support the command with operational vehicles and accommodation for officers to address its logistics and housing challenges.
He assured residents of the command’s continued onslaught against drug traffickers and abusers, stressing that efforts would be intensified to dismantle illicit drug networks and make Katsina a “safe haven” state.
