As Nigerians celebrate the festive season, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Pernod Ricard Nigeria have joined forces to raise awareness about the increasing number of drunk driving incidents on the nation’s roads.

The alarming trend has prompted the two organisations to launch a joint campaign to promote responsible drinking and road safety.

The campaign, themed “Take Responsibility for Your Safety. Don’t Drink and Drive,” seeks to sensitise the public on the dangers of drunk driving and promote a culture of responsible road use, particularly during the festive season when roads are busier than usual.

Speaking during an event held in Ikeja, Lagos, recently, the Managing Director of Pernod Ricard Nigeria, Michael Ehindero, emphasised the importance of responsible drinking and road safety during the festive season.

“As we celebrate with family and friends, let’s not forget that road safety is everyone’s responsibility. We urge all road users to prioritise their safety and the safety of others on the road. Don’t drink and drive, and let’s make this festive season a joyful and accident-free one.”

Ehindero added the campaign is an integral part of Pernod Ricard’s culture, which emphasises being responsible for one’s actions, even on the roads.

“We don’t want accidents on our roads. We don’t want accidents arising as a result of driving under the influence, whether it’s drugs, alcohol, or whatever, or distraction. Let’s be responsible and make a difference.”

The Lagos State Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Kehinde Hamzat, highlighted the dangers of drunk driving during the festive season, citing statistics that show it’s a leading cause of fatal road crashes.

“Drunk driving is a significant threat to road safety, and we must do everything in our power to prevent it. Let’s prioritise road safety and take responsibility for our actions on the road.”

Hamzat, who was represented by the Deputy Corps Commander (admin and human resources), Lagos sector, Federal Safety Corp, Edith Eloka, emphasised that road safety is a collective responsibility and urged drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and fleet operators to take responsibility for their actions.

“Let’s work together to make our roads safer during this festive season. Don’t drink and drive, and let’s arrive alive.”

The FRSC and Pernod Ricard Nigeria are urging Nigerians to pledge to responsible road safety practices.

“Let’s commit ourselves to practical actions, not just words. When we choose to say no to drunk driving, we safeguard families, protect communities, and preserve futures. Let’s pledge to prioritise road safety and take responsibility for our actions on the road.”

The campaign will involve a series of activities, including sensitization programs, road safety campaigns, and partnerships with key stakeholders to promote responsible drinking and road safety.

The FRSC and Pernod Ricard Nigeria are confident that the campaign will make a significant impact in reducing the number of drunk driving incidents on the nation’s roads.

As the festive season gets underway, the FRSC and Pernod Ricard Nigeria are urging Nigerians to prioritize road safety and make responsible choices.

“I will take responsibility for my safety. I will not drink and drive.” Together, we can make Nigeria’s roads safer, one responsible decision at a time.

The partnership between FRSC and Pernod Ricard Nigeria is a reflection of the commitment of both organisations to promoting road safety and responsible drinking practices.

As the nation celebrates the festive season, the FRSC and Pernod Ricard Nigeria are urging everyone to prioritize road safety and make responsible choices.
