DOGARA SALUTES GENERAL DANJUMA, DESCRIBES HIM AS THE LION WHO GUARDED NIGERIA’S DESTINY

Former Speaker of the House of Representatives and Chairman of the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited (NCGC), Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has extolled the virtues of General Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma (GCON), describing him as a towering figure whose courage and patriotism helped safeguard Nigeria at some of its most defining moments.

In a tribute issued to celebrate General Danjuma’s birthday, Dogara said the elder statesman stands as one of the most influential pillars of Nigeria’s nationhood, a man whose life tells the story of sacrifice, resilience, and uncommon devotion to the unity and stability of the country. He said Danjuma’s military service distinguished him as a strategic mind and fearless defender of Nigeria, a man whose presence at critical points in history helped shape the direction of the nation.

Dogara noted that Danjuma’s impact extends far beyond his years in uniform. According to him, the retired General evolved into a statesman whose influence has continued to uplift communities and strengthen national development through philanthropy, advocacy, and strategic interventions. He praised the T. Y. Danjuma Foundation for its transformative contributions to education, healthcare, community empowerment, and humanitarian support across Nigeria.

He emphasized that General Danjuma’s willingness to speak boldly in the interest of the nation—especially when silence would have been easier—sets him apart as a moral force in Nigeria’s leadership landscape. Dogara said the elder statesman has consistently reminded leaders of their responsibility to justice, fairness, and accountability, providing a voice of clarity at moments of national uncertainty.

“As we honour him today, we celebrate a life that has shaped institutions, protected national unity, and given hope to countless families,” Dogara said. “General T. Y. Danjuma is more than a military icon; he is a guardian of Nigeria’s destiny, a lion who stood between the nation and danger, and a statesman whose integrity continues to inspire generations.”

Dogara expressed gratitude on behalf of the National Credit Guarantee Company Limited and in his personal capacity, praying for renewed strength and long life for the elder statesman. He described Danjuma as “a titan of service, a beacon of courage, and one of Nigeria’s greatest living patriots.”
