The Wellbeing Foundation Africa (WBFA) and Reckitt Nigeria, producers of Dettol, have inducted 72 students across 10 Local Government Areas in Lagos State to ignite a spark of leadership, responsibility, and transformation.
Speaking during the Dettol Hygiene Quest (DHQ) Ambassador Induction Workshop held recently, Director of Programming and Reporting, WBFA, Dr Osinachi Onyeoziri, noted that the program is pivotal to fostering hygiene campaigns in schools and among peers.
He said, “Today isn’t just another day. It’s an important moment where we come together across 10 LGAs in Lagos to ignite a spark of leadership, responsibility, and transformation. This induction workshop marks the beginning of a journey, a journey where each of our DHQ Ambassadors will be the torchbearers of change in your schools and communities.
“At WBFA, we believe that sustainability is not just a goal, it’s a mindset. The DHQ project was designed with a clear vision: to create lasting behavioural change that doesn’t end with a workshop or a campaign. This is why today’s induction isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning.
“As part of our sustainability plan, we’re building a network of Hygiene Quest Clubs in schools, clubs led by our ambassadors. These clubs will ensure that hygiene education and advocacy continue long after the banners are taken down and the workshops are concluded.
“They will lead handwashing demonstrations, hygiene campaigns, and WASH activities, keeping the momentum alive in your schools. Your role is to inspire your peers, engage your teachers, and influence your communities.”
Representing the Environmental Education Unit, Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Tayo-Badru Mobolaji, during her keynote address, commended the organisers, restated government support to drive hygiene programs.
” I commend this initiative for empowering our schools and communities to build healthier futures through hygiene. The Dettol Hygiene Quest is more than a program; it is a movement. By training 600 ambassador students and teachers, you are lighting a flame that will spread across classrooms, families, and neighbourhoods.
“The targets of increasing handwashing, reducing diarrhoea, and cutting school absenteeism are bold, but with your commitment, they are achievable. To our student ambassadors: you are the role models. Lead by example. Inspire our peers. Small actions, such as washing hands, keeping clean, and protecting health, make a big difference. To our teachers and partners: thank you for guiding, mentoring, and investing in the well-being of our children.
“Government stands ready to support efforts like this that align with our vision for healthier schools and stronger communities. Let us remember: good hygiene saves lives, strengthens learning, and secures the future of our nation. Together, we can make it a lasting culture,” she said.
