When girls lack writing materials, reaching academic success is tough, whether at home or abroad. Hence, in rural Iguobazowa, Edo State, many girls have longed for the day stationery would be easy to get.
On October 31st, the Emmanuel Osemota Foundation (EOF) marked the International Day of the Girl Child 2025 with female students of the Edo National College, Iguobazowa.
Celebrated with the theme “The girl I am, the change I lead: Girls on the frontlines of crisis”, the foundation encouraged students by donating notebooks, pens, computers, and other learning tools to over 200 girls.
EOF’s founder, Mr. Emmanuel J. Osemota expressed hope these items will help the girls pursue their dreams.
Osemota said: “Substance abuse among younger girls is increasingly disturbing. That is why we strive to educate the girls here at Edo National College.
“We have been doing this from other local governments, and we thought it wise to come to Ovia South where we have now established our presence with Edo National College.”
The Emmanuel Osemota Foundation has made a significant difference across Edo State, empowering schools and communities with robust educational support.
Over the years, the foundation has delivered books, writing materials, computers, laptops for students and more to numerous schools and students, including All Saints Model Nursery and Primary School in Auchi (Etsako West LGA), where the Lucy Osemota Education Fund Backpack Giveaway provided pupils with backpacks comprising notebooks, pens, pencils, and other essential supplies in memory of Prof. (Mrs.) Lucy Amadin Osemota.
At Ujemen Primary School, Ekpoma (Esan West LGA), the foundation organized the Dr. Samuel Uwa Osemota Achievers’ Awards School Drive, equipping young learners with books and learning tools while inspiring them through the legacy of Dr. Samuel Uwa Osemota, a figure celebrated for his passion for academic excellence and community service.
The foundation’s reach extends further. Eguare Primary School in Ekpoma has also benefited from the Dr. S.U. Osemota Achievers Awards School Drive, along with various other support programmes dedicated to fostering educational success and character development among pupils.
In Orhua, Uhunmwode LGA, more than 200 primary school pupils received incentives and educational materials under the Lucy Osemota Education Fund, a gesture that left a lasting impact on both students and community leaders, who praised the foundation for continuing the exemplary service of Prof. (Mrs.) Osemota.

Emmanuel Osemota Foundation’s initiatives reach secondary education as well. At Eyaen Secondary School in Benin City, the foundation hosted a special symposium for girls, spotlighting education, empowerment, and menstrual health. It also offered practical gifts to inspire confidence and ambition among the students.
Indeed, throughout Edo State, the foundation organises statewide programmes ranging from community advocacy and anti-human trafficking campaigns to free medical outreaches and entrepreneurship training, demonstrating a holistic commitment to uplifting communities, the vulnerables, the girl child and women.
This year, the foundation joined the global celebration of the Girl Child in Edo State in line with its commitment. Dr. Oghenekaro Anene, one of the facilitators, remarked, “The Emmanuel Osemota Foundation carries out programmes like this to tell the girl child that she can be all that she was meant to be”.
Anene insisted that this programme is part of the organisation’s enduring mission to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of girls.
Some beneficiaries commended Emmanuel Osemota Foundation for the kind gesture, and called on other well meaning Nigerians and individuals to take a page or two from the foundation.
Among them is Favour Oghenekpeke, who expressed confidence in who she is. “I learned that I should not be afraid of myself because I know that I am a woman, and I also learned many things about my menstruation, on how to keep myself clean, and stay hygienic.”
Another beneficiary, Osaze Faith Enoma, echoed Oghenekpeke’s sentiments. “I will say thank you to Emmanuel Osemota for bringing this project to our school and giving us the opportunity to express ourselves.”
Emmanuel Osemota Foundation is a non-governmental organisation passionate about creating lasting change and empowering vulnerable populations, particularly girls and women in Edo State Nigeria and Florida in the US.
