Church’s Compassion in Action: Christ Hope Church Empowers Police Widows in Lagos

In a heartwarming display of community solidarity, Christ Hope Church recently concluded the third edition of its PROJECT RENEW, a special initiative aimed at uplifting the families of police officers who have lost their loved ones. On a Sunday in Lagos, the church’s Global Lead Pastor, Moses Abiola, organized a special Sunday service food items worth ₦20,000 each were distributed to 100 widows, providing much-needed relief amid Nigeria’s economic challenges.

The gesture, part of the church’s monthly outreach, underscores the power of faith-driven action in addressing societal gaps. “This initiative highlights our commitment to supporting vulnerable groups,” Pastor Abiola said. “We believe in caring for those who need it most.”

The beneficiaries, many of whom struggle to make ends meet, expressed overwhelming gratitude. “This comes at a time of great need,” said one widow. “God bless The Christ Hope Church!”

PROJECT RENEW aligns with broader efforts by Nigerian faith-based organizations to tackle poverty and hardship.

The collaborative support of OVL foundation who shared Similar vision with what the church is doing for widows has gone a long way to provide more than relief as other empowerment initiatives has been instituted to support these widows. The Christ Hope Church has entered a partnership with OVL foundation, one of the leading non-profitable organizations, the brain behind 9ja Youth Drive, an initiative that has empowered many young people with vocational and digital skills across Nigeria to facilitate vocational training and digital programs that will enable these vulnerable women fend for themselves and the families left behind by their husband.

As Nigeria grapples with rising inflation and food insecurity—with 33 million people facing acute hunger—acts like these offer a beacon of hope. “We must complement government efforts,” urges Pastor Moses. “The church must lead in compassion”.

Christ Hope Church’s example reminds us that collective kindness can ease burdens. “True religion is about caring for the widow and the fatherless,” said Mrs Omobolanle Victor-Laniyan, the founder of OVL foundation.

The church plans to expand PROJECT RENEW this coming December as we plan Reformative conference for the Police Force. We shall also be distributing food items to 1,000 officers and their widows. We hereby invite you to join the movement. “Let’s make a difference, one act of kindness at a time,” Pastor Abiola appealed.
