‘Let The Sun Pay Your Bills’: Energy Expert Proffers Solar Solution to Nigeria’s Power Crisis

As millions of Nigerians continue to grapple with incessant power outages and the escalating cost of grid energy, the Chief Executive Officer of Lumigrid Technology Limited, Mr. Akporowho Mariere, has identified the harnessing of solar energy as the panacea to the nation’s perennial electricity problems.

This call was made during an exclusive engagement with our correspondent, where Mariere highlighted the untapped potential of Nigeria’s abundant sunlight, describing it as an “untapped goldmine” capable of transforming the economy.

Speaking on the theme, “Let the Sun Pay Your Bills,” Mariere lamented that from the bustling city of Lagos to the rapidly growing estates of Abuja, and the industrious hubs of Delta, Kano and Enugu, the lack of reliable electricity remains a painful constant, crippling productivity and inflating business costs.

He contrasted the struggle with erratic power and rising diesel costs with Nigeria’s immense solar endowment, stating, “With over 2,800 hours of sunlight annually and an average solar radiation level of 5.5 kWh/m² per day, Nigeria sits at the heart of one of the world’s richest solar energy belts. What we see as heat is actually an untapped goldmine of clean, renewable and cost-effective electricity.”

The energy expert painted a vivid picture of a future where every rooftop becomes a quiet, efficient power station, converting free sunlight into steady, sustainable energy, free from generator noise, fuel expense, and unexpected power cuts.

He revealed that his company, Lumigrid Technology Limited, is at the forefront of this renewable energy transformation, deploying advanced hybrid inverter systems and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) to ensure energy independence for homes and businesses.

Mariere issued a stark economic reality check to homes and businesses still reliant on traditional power sources, declaring, “The reality is clear: if you’re still spending heavily on diesel or paying inflated electricity bills, you’re losing money daily. The Sun — unlike your utility provider, will never send you a monthly bill. It only asks for the foresight to harness its limitless power.”

He concluded by asserting that with fuel prices skyrocketing and the national grid struggling, solar power has transitioned from a luxury to a necessity, urging homeowners, real estate developers, and business leaders to make the switch for a more sustainable and cost-effective future.
