The Progressive Governors Forum has asked the traditional rulers across the country to use  traditional methods to combat the raging insurgency, banditry and insecurity across the country.

They told the leaders to consult the gods and employ the services of traditional worshippers to humble those behind insecurity in the country.

The suggestions were made by the Chairman of the Progressives Governors Forum, and Governor of Imo State, Chief Hope Uzodinma, when they paid a condolence visit on their Niger State counterpart, Mohammed Umaru Bago, at Government House, Minna, yesterday.

The suggestions also came on the heels of the threat by the United States President Donald Trump to invade Nigeria as a way to stop what he called frequent attacks and genocide on christians.

Uzodinma said President Bola Tinubu has been doing his best to bring an end to insecurity and banditry in the land, therefore, the traditional rulers should join hands with him (Tinubu) to overcome the menace.

“Iam  calling  on traditional rulers to conjure with the gods of the land to protect the Nation. The president is committed in capacity building and we at the sub nationals are committed to all his ideas, and are showing what good governance is all about,” Uzodinma declared.

He explained that they were in the state “to commiserate with the government and people of Niger over the incessant boat mishaps,  tanker accidents and insecurity that have led to loss of lives and displacement  of a number of people.

“We have come  to see one of our own  to console him, and encourage him to be strong,” adding that, “Ours is to support him in prayers, materially, and logistically to ensure that the families are comforted to bear the loss.”

Uzodinma described Bago “as one of our best and brightest energetic and full of capacity in which we believe and would deliver when supported.”

Responding, the Niger governor appreciated his colleagues for the visit before  lamenting the scourge of insecurity in the state  and the numerous disasters that have befallen the people of the state.

The governors of Delta, Kogi, Ebonyi, and Lagos, as well as the Deputy  governors of Jigawa,  Kebbi,  and Sokoto States were on Uzodinma’s entourage.

Also in attendance were top traditional rulers in the state led by the Etsu Nupe and Chairman of the council of traditional rulers, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar.
