Oladejo Honored as Fellow of Environment and Safety Management Institute

In recognition of his outstanding contributions to construction safety and environmental management, Abayomi Ayoola Oladejo has been conferred with the Fellowship of the Environment and Safety Management Institute (FESMI) by the Environmental and Safety Management Institute, Nigeria. The honor celebrates his exceptional leadership, research excellence, and professional service in advancing safety and sustainability within the built environment.
Currently based in Colorado, USA, Oladejo is helping to shape the future of construction safety across the United States. He serves as a Graduate Research Assistant with the Construction Safety Research Alliance (CSRA) at the University of Colorado Boulder, where he leads research aimed at reducing serious injuries and fatalities on construction sites. His work brings together over 30 top-tier firms from the construction, oil and gas, and utilities sectors to apply data analytics and evidence-based practices in improving safety performance industry-wide.
Oladejo holds a Bachelor of Technology in Civil Engineering from Ladoke Akintola University of Technology and an M.Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of Ibadan. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder.
Before relocating to the United States, Oladejo served as Area General Services/Construction Project Manager at First Bank of Nigeria, where he oversaw multimillion-naira infrastructure and renovation projects across multiple locations. His leadership ensured continuous operations with 100% facility uptime and earned him the Overall Best Area General Services Manager Award in 2022.
Earlier in his career, he worked with Akintayo Consulting, leading environmental impact assessments and urban mobility studies, and later collaborated with researchers from Leeds Beckett University (UK) on projects linking urban green infrastructure to public health outcomes. He also spent seven years as an Assistant Lecturer at The Polytechnic Ibadan, where he taught, mentored, and co-supervised emerging engineers.
A distinguished professional, Oladejo is a Registered Engineer with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and a Professional Member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) and its Construction Institute (CI). He currently serves as Chairman of the Student Affairs Committee of the ASCE Colorado Section, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to nurturing the next generation of engineers.
His numerous recognitions include the 2025 McLaren Futures Family Fellowship, the 2018 Young African Leadership Initiative (YALI) Fellowship, and the 2017 Award of Recognition as President, Postgraduate Civil Engineering Students’ Association of the University of Ibadan. He is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP).
The conferment of Fellowship by the Environment and Safety Management Institute underscores Abayomi’s enduring impact on construction safety, environmental stewardship, and leadership within the engineering profession, both in Africa and the United States.
