LAWSAN Southeast Zone Celebrates ‘Unbridled Excellence’ at Landmark Convention in Ebonyi State
The Law Students’ Association of Nigeria (LAWSAN) Southeast Zone has once again demonstrated its commitment to academic brilliance, leadership, and unity with the successful hosting of its 2025 Annual Convention themed “Unbridled Excellence.”
Held from Wednesday, October 22 to Saturday, October 25, 2025, in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, the convention marked the first time the Southeast Zone brought its flagship event to the state — a milestone that drew delegates and dignitaries from across the country.
As the largest community of law students in Nigeria, LAWSAN comprises over 85 member chapters across universities nationwide. Established in 2017, the Association serves as a unifying body for law students, fostering professional growth, leadership development, and collaboration within the legal education community.
The Southeast Zone, fondly called “The Shining Zone,” consists of 16 member chapters and represents over 21,000 law students across universities in the region.
The 2025 Convention featured a rich lineup of activities including a Greet and Meet Session, Symposium, Moot Competition, Magazine Launch, Cultural Exhibition, Morning Groove, Game Fest, and a grand Dinner Night. Each segment offered opportunities for intellectual exchange, leadership exposure, and social networking.
The highly engaging Symposium brought together eminent figures from the Nigerian legal and academic communities, including:
• Hon. Justice Festus Obande Ogbuinya of the Supreme Court (represented by Hon. Justice B. A. N. Ogbu)
• Prof. Amari Omaka, SAN, Hon. Commissioner for Tertiary Education
• Prof. Michael Ugoata, Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University (represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ike Elechi)
• Dr. Uchechukwu Uguru, Dean, Faculty of Law, EBSU, among other notable guests.
Speaking at the event, the Zonal Director of LAWSAN Southeast, Bethel Chimzurumoke Bright, described the convention as a living testament to the Zone’s pursuit of Unbridled Excellence. He emphasized that the gathering reflects the administration’s dedication to promoting intellectual vibrancy, inclusiveness, and impactful leadership among law students.
Bethel, a dynamic and visionary leader, currently oversees the affairs of over 21,000 law students in the Southeast. His tenure has been marked by transformative initiatives that foster academic excellence, professional mentorship, and inter-campus collaboration.
Recently honored as an Ambassador of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for his integrity-driven leadership, Bethel continues to inspire a culture of accountability and excellence among young leaders. He is also a passionate advocate for Sustainable Development Goal 4 (Quality Education) and has led one of Nigeria’s largest student-led outreach projects, directly impacting 9,274 children across 23 schools in the Southeast.
At the heart of his leadership philosophy lies one enduring principle — Excellence. This same principle has not only defined Bethel’s personal journey but also continues to shape the identity and impact of the LAWSAN Southeast Zone.
The 2025 Convention in Abakaliki stands as a resounding success and a proud moment for the LAWSAN Southeast family — a celebration of brilliance, unity, and the unwavering pursuit of excellence that lights the path for the next generation of legal minds in Nigeria.
