British Council to Host Global Virtual Conference for Teachers

The British Council (Teaching English programme) is set to host a global virtual conference for teachers between October 9 and 11, as part of efforts to commemorate the World Teachers’ Day and support the professional development of teachers worldwide.
The conference, themed ‘Global Voices, Future focus’, will feature sessions led by experienced English language teachers and educators, focusing on digital teaching, multilingual classrooms, sustainability education, and 21st-century skills.
Country Director, British Council Nigeria, Donna McGowan, explained that the event will offer teachers across subjects the opportunity to connect with peers globally, share experiences, and gain practical skills applicable to classroom practice.
She added that the event will provides a fantastic opportunity for teachers in the country to access global thought leadership on English language teaching from AI innovation to sustainability in teaching, all for free.
“All attendees will receive a professional development certificate from the British Council. The three-day programme will be organised around thematic days; Professional Development and Digital Tools, Multilingualism and 21st-Century Skills as well as Sustainability and Language Skills.
Speakers include Cecilia Nobre, Christopher Graham, Man Wu, Mary Rose Banaag, Amol Padwad, Ana Lucía Castells Ruiz, and Iyabọ Adebimpe Akintola.”
Director of English and School Education at the British Council, Michael Connolly, said the event celebrates a shared commitment to professional growth, inclusivity, and innovation in the classroom.”
Head of English Connects, Alison Devine, added that the conference “captures the essence of what Teaching English achieves as a global hub for educators , connecting, reflecting, and growing together.”
The British Council said participation is free, and all sessions will be streamed live on Zoom, YouTube, and Facebook. Teachers can join the conversation using the hashtag #GlobalVoicesFutureFocus and register through the Teaching English online platform.
