Misty Glam Hosts Nigeria’s First Albinism Advocacy Pageant Grand Finale to Champion Inclusion
History will be made in Lagos on Saturday, September 13, 2025, as Misty Glam Company rolls out the Grand Finale of Nigeria’s first-ever Albinism Advocacy Pageant. Designed to go beyond the glitz of pageantry, the event will spotlight the voices, talents, and leadership of women living with albinism breaking stereotypes and rewriting narratives in the process.
Founded by Owolabi Misturah Abisola, Misty Glam Company is Africa’s first inclusive talent management and advocacy agency representing individuals with albinism, vitiligo, disabilities, and chronic illnesses. According to Owolabi, the vision is rooted in dismantling unrealistic beauty standards and creating platforms where everyone can be represented.
“This pageant is advocacy in high definition,” Owolabi told journalists. “Every contestant is trained to be an ambassador, learning public speaking, personal branding, leadership, and the confidence to own spaces that were never built for them. We combine the sparkle of pageantry with the seriousness of social change, because visibility without empowerment is just decoration.”
Launched in February 2025, the Albinism Advocacy Pageant has provided a stage for women aged 18 to 50 to tell their stories, build their voices, and challenge stereotypes that have long excluded persons with albinism from leadership, media, and creative spaces. Contestants have undergone months of media training, leadership sessions, styling workshops, and confidence coaching ahead of the finale.
“The goal? To challenge what society thinks persons with albinism can do, and to replace limitation with limitless possibility,” Owolabi emphasized. “The crown is just the beginning. Our queens go on to run advocacy campaigns, lead projects in their communities, and become role models for young people who’ve never seen themselves reflected on a big stage.”
The advocacy journey began with storytelling. On International Albinism Awareness Day, Misty Glam Company released a documentary spotlighting the resilience and brilliance of persons with albinism across Nigeria. Since then, the initiative has grown into a movement, positioning women with albinism as leaders, creators, and change-makers.
Looking beyond the pageant, Owolabi Misturah has plans to extend the company’s advocacy efforts to other marginalized groups represented by the agency. She insists that society must be confronted with representation in unexpected spaces.
“We do this so a little girl with albinism or any young person from a marginalized group watching from home can know: Your dreams are valid. Your identity is not a limit. You belong on every stage you dare to step on,” she said.
As the grand finale approaches, Misty Glam Company is calling on brands, organizations, and individuals to support the movement. “We know that change is a collective effort, and it thrives on collaboration,” Owolabi added. “Sponsorships and strategic partnerships don’t just fund an event, they invest in a generation of leaders, amplify untold stories, and align your brand with a movement that’s changing lives.”
The September 13 finale promises to be more than an event—it is a movement to shift narratives and make the invisible impossible to ignore.
