Team Lagos Coasts to Victory As Curtains Fall on National Youth Games

With the stage is set for the closing ceremony of the 9th National Youth Games (NYG), today, at the Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba, Delta State, Team Lagos has continued its hold on the first position on the competition’s medals table.

The 9th NYG will climax, as part of the today’s closing ceremony, with the finals of the 4×100 metres (male and female) 4×400 (male, female and mixed) relay as well as the 4×400 metres medley (male and female).

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, represented by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, the Executive Governor of Delta State, Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, the Director-General of the NSC and Chairman of the Main Organizing Committee, Mr Bukola Olopade are billed to witness the closing ceremony together with other dignitaries, top sports administrators and delegations from across the country.

The NSC in a statement assured that the events to mark the closing ceremony “promise to showcase the best of Nigeria’s emerging athletic talents, with dignitaries and fans eagerly anticipating record-breaking performances.”

The medals table released to newsmen yesterday by the Media and Publicity sub committee for the 9th NYG, Team Lagos had maintained its comfortable lead with 46 Gold, 36 Silver and 18 Bronze medals.

In second place is Team Edo with 33 Gold, 11 Silver and 20 Bronze medals while host Delta has so far raked in 26 Gold, 33 Silver and 32 Bronze medals in the third position.

The table also showed the 32 states and the FCT have registered their presence with medals so far won.

“The 9th National Youth Games has once again proven to be a breeding ground for future champions, strengthening grassroots sports development and celebrating the unity, resilience, and talent of Nigerian youth”, the NSC through Kola Daniel, S.A. Media, asserted.
