Young Africans are gearing up for the 5th Extraordinary Youth Model African Union (YMAU) Summit, slated for November 12–14, 2025, at the African Union Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Organised by the Centre for Peace Advocacy and Sustainable Development (CEPASD) in collaboration with the African Union and UNDP, the summit provides a unique diplomatic platform where youth step into the roles of AU Heads of State to deliberate and adopt policy resolutions on issues affecting the continent.
This year’s summit theme, “Building a United Front for Justice for African Youth and People of African Descent through Reparations,” underscores the growing demand for fairness, dignity, and equal opportunity across Africa and its diaspora.
Delegates will receive training in position paper drafting, diplomacy, and policy engagement, participate in AU simulations, and contribute to youth-driven policy recommendations that will be shared with African Union policymakers
Augustine Igweshi, Convener of YMAU and Executive Director of CEPASD, said the summit offers practical leadership experience for Africa’s youth.
“We place young Africans in the seats of Heads of State and Presidents, simulating the AU’s decision-making processes. This is leadership in action and Africa’s future in African hands,” he said.
The summit also seeks to advance the AU Agenda 2063 and the AU 1Million Next Level Initiative, promoting youth participation in local and continental governance, climate action, and inclusive growth.
The event is supported by a wide range of partners, including the Bahai International Community Organization, Model AU-Ethiopia, FES Addis Ababa Office, and the Ethiopia Youth Dialogue for Peace Association, ensuring representation from all AU member states.
