TRIBUTES POUR IN AS SENATOR OHERE MARKS BIRTHDAY, REMEMBERS BUHARI AS A NATIONAL TREASURE
The political and traditional elite joined family, friends, and constituents over the weekend to celebrate the birthday of Senator Abubakar Sadiku Ohere, FNSE, FNICE — former lawmaker who represented Kogi Central and served as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content.
The event, though modest in nature, attracted glowing tributes from across Nigeria, with many describing Senator Ohere as a disciplined, visionary leader who has left an enduring mark on public service and legislative governance.
Leading the stream of messages was the Ohinoyi of Ebiraland, His Royal Majesty Alhaji Dr. Ahmed Tijani Muhammed Anaje, who commended Senator Ohere for his unwavering loyalty to the Ebira traditional institution and his immense contributions to the development of Kogi Central and beyond. The monarch praised his leadership style as one rooted in humility, technical competence, and deep regard for cultural heritage.
Celebrations poured in from public figures, political allies, youth groups, and technocrats who highlighted Senator Ohere’s achievements in governance — especially his role in advancing infrastructure, education, and social investment programmes during his time in office.
In a personal message shared with well-wishers, Senator Ohere expressed deep appreciation to God for the journey so far and acknowledged the support of his constituents, traditional leaders, political associates, and family members. He said the occasion served as both a celebration and a moment for solemn reflection.
In a deeply moving gesture, Senator Ohere used his birthday to honour the memory of Nigeria’s immediate past President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, who recently passed away after decades of dedicated service to the nation. The Senator described Buhari as a father figure, a leader of exceptional moral character, and a symbol of integrity in public life.
According to Ohere, President Buhari’s legacy is not measured by political titles alone, but by the values he espoused — discipline, modesty, accountability, and a fierce devotion to the sovereignty and security of Nigeria. He credited Buhari with redefining leadership at a time when the country needed moral clarity and institutional reform.
As a federal lawmaker during Buhari’s administration, Ohere said he witnessed the late President’s resolve to fight corruption, deepen infrastructure development, and reposition key sectors of the economy, including agriculture and manufacturing. He said Buhari’s sense of duty, simple lifestyle, and fearless defence of national interest will forever remain part of Nigeria’s political history.
The Senator extended prayers to the late President’s family, especially the former First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Buhari, and prayed Allah to grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
Stakeholders at the birthday event commended Senator Ohere not just for his leadership track record, but for his emotional depth and national consciousness — demonstrated through his decision to dedicate his personal celebration to the memory of a national icon.
As the festivities continued, the day stood as a symbol of both thanksgiving and tribute — honouring a life in service, and remembering a leader whose legacy continues to shape Nigeria’s journey.
