SENATE CHIEF WHIP MONGUNO MOURNS BUHARI, DESCRIBES HIM AS A MAN OF HONOUR AND NATIONAL CONSCIENCE

The Chief Whip of the Senate and distinguished Senator representing Borno North, Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, has expressed profound grief over the passing of Nigeria’s former President, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, describing him as a man of honour, discipline, and enduring national service.

In a solemn tribute issued in Abuja, Senator Monguno mourned the death of the elder statesman, calling him “a leader of deep conviction and unshakeable principles whose legacy will forever shape the conscience of the Nigerian state.”

He noted that President Buhari’s life was defined by sacrifice and responsibility — from his early days as a military officer to his historic return as a democratically elected President.

“President Buhari was not driven by ambition, but by duty. He governed with uncommon restraint, always guided by a clear moral compass,” Monguno stated.

Highlighting Buhari’s contribution to national infrastructure, the anti-corruption war, and food security through agricultural reforms, Senator Monguno said the former President brought integrity and accountability back to the heart of public office.

“As someone from the North-East, I bear witness to the attention he gave our region. His commitment to the fight against insurgency and to rebuilding conflict-torn communities is a testament to his love for our people,” the Chief Whip added.

He described Buhari as a man who preferred quiet impact to political flamboyance — a trait, Monguno said, that earned him the respect of allies and critics alike.

“I pray Almighty Allah grants Baba Buhari eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus and comforts his family and the nation he served with all he had,” Monguno concluded.
