Nelson Mandela Leadership Lecture and Awards 2025 to Honour Nigeria’s Changemakers
As the world prepares to commemorate Nelson Mandela International Day on July 18, the 2025 edition of the Nelson Mandela Leadership Lecture and Impact Makers Award (IMA) Diamond Class is set to honour outstanding Nigerians who embody the values and legacy of the global icon.
The annual event, jointly organised by the Professional Public Speaking and Leadership Academy (PPSLA Africa) and the Teens Resource and Enhancement Centre International (TREC International), recognises individuals making measurable and lasting contributions to society through purposeful leadership, integrity, and service.
This year’s ceremony, which will take place in Abuja, promises to be a convergence of top figures from across various sectors — including captains of industry, political leaders, philanthropists, diplomats, traditional rulers, academics, media professionals, and emerging youth voices.
Speaking ahead of the event, Dr Lotanna Okoye, Director-General of PPSLA Africa and lead host, emphasised the importance of honouring those whose actions reflect Mandela’s values.
“This year’s edition will showcase exceptional lectures and the investiture of top Nigerians — captains of industry, the political class, philanthropists, industrialists, members of the diplomatic corps, royal fathers, media giants and young changemakers — whose uncommon courage and commitment to nation-building continue to uplift and transform lives,” he said.
Dr Okoye further noted that the event goes beyond mere recognition. “The 2025 Nelson Mandela Leadership Lecture and Impact Makers Award Diamond Class is more than an award — it is a convergence of people of impact, a platform of inspiration, a stage for voices that spark hope, and a rallying point for a generation determined to build a better future,” he added.
At the heart of the initiative is a commitment to promote leadership that prioritises service, unity, and justice — principles Mandela lived by. Through the Impact Makers Award, the organisers aim to highlight individuals who are solving real problems, bringing hope to their communities, and reshaping society through their vision and actions.
A key feature of this year’s programme is the inclusion of over 50 teenage emerging leaders from across the country. These young participants, mentored by TREC International, represent the next generation of African changemakers. Their presence reinforces the intergenerational transfer of leadership values and the urgency of grooming responsible, ethical leaders for tomorrow.
The event also aims to raise support for the construction of the Teens Resource and Enhancement International Centre in Abuja — a world-class leadership and development hub that will provide holistic training and mentorship to young people across Africa.
As the world remembers Nelson Mandela’s legacy, the 2025 lecture and awards ceremony seeks to serve as a national reminder of the power of visionary leadership and the urgent need for citizens who lead with empathy, courage, and a sense of purpose.
