NHEA 2025: Minister hails stakeholders over Innovations, impact in healthcare sector

Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Iziaq Salako has given thumbs up to stakeholders in the Nigerian healthcare sector for their resilience and innovative impacts in the nation’s economy.
Speaking at the 11th Nigerian Healthcare Excellence Awards held in Lagos recently, Dr. Salako praised the winners for setting new standards in the sector.
‘’Tonight, we witnessed proof that our health sector is rich with talents, innovation, and resilience. These winners are the foundation of a strong health system,’’ he said.
Chairman of the NHEA Advisory Board, Dr. Anthony Omolola, who expressed his delight at the milestone the awards initiative has achieved, said the project will continue to encourage culture of quality innovation as part of its commitment to driving quality healthcare in the country.
“We are not just handing out awards—we are reinforcing a culture of quality, competitiveness, and commitment to saving lives.”
According to the organizers, the 2025 edition, themed ’Collaborating for impact: Strengthening Health Systems through the SWAp Approach, received over 25, 000 nominations and thousands of public votes. The impressive records reflect the growing engagement and public trust in the healthcare sector, they said.
The event spotlighted outstanding individuals and institutions advancing excellence across the healthcare ecosystem in Nigeria.
One of the winners, Dr. Otueguonor Ogumor of R-Jolad Hospital, said, “This recognition validates the effort our team puts in daily. It pushes us to reach for higher standards in care and service delivery.”
High-profile dignitaries in attendance during the colourful event include, the Governor of Lagos State, ably represented by the Hon. Commissioner for Health, and the Executive Governor of Katsina State, Dr. Dikko Umaru Radda, who was honoured with a Special Recognition Award for his transformative health initiatives.
The award categories covered a diverse range of healthcare delivery and innovation sectors.
Top winners include Sterling Bank Plc, Outstanding Healthcare Financial Institution of the Year; Katsina State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KTSCHMA) and Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), State Government Health Insurance of the Year; University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), Public Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year; Duchess International Hospital, Private Tertiary Healthcare Facility of the Year; Ikorodu General Hospital, Public Secondary Healthcare Facility of the Year; R-Jolad Hospital, Private Secondary Healthcare Facility of the Year.
Others are Leadway Health Limited, Health Maintenance Organization of the Year; EHA Clinics, Innovative Healthcare Service Provider of the Year and The Bridge Clinic, IVF Service Provider of the Year. Also on the list of winners are; Zenith Medical & Kidney Centre, Abuja, Dialysis Service Provider of the Year; Eye Foundation Hospital, Eye Care Service Provider of the Year; Smile360 Dental Specialists, Dental Service Provider of the Year; Medserve-LUTH Cancer Centre, Oncology Centre of the Year; Codix Pharma Limited, Technology-Driven Pharmaceutical Distributor of the Year, etc.
In the media category, Pharmanews Ltd. won Healthcare Media Excellence (Print), while Nigeria Health Watch won in the Electronic category.
With strong backing from proud partners PharmAccess Foundation and DCL Laboratory Products Ltd., NHEA 2025 spotlighted innovation in diagnostics and lab services. These awards came in four different categories with four winners emerging. They are; PharmAccess SafeCare Award won by Orile Agege General Hospital as the Most Active Public Facility on the SafeCare Quality Platform and South Shore Women and Children’s Hospital as the Highest SafeCare Quality Score and Level. For DCL NHEA Awards: Cerba Lancet Nigeria won the Laboratory Innovation & Quality Improvement, and MLS Samuel Aigbogun, NNPC Medicals, Mosimi as the Laboratory Professional of the Year.
