The Manager of Beresford Wines, Annabel Awara, has disclosed that despite current economic challenges, the company remains fully committed to empowering and discovering talented youths by equipping them with entrepreneurial development skills in Nigeria.
In an interview with journalists in Abuja, she reiterated that Beresford Wines plays a vital role in both direct and indirect job creation, making a sizable contribution to the Nigerian job market.
“As a Nigerian-based company, we understand the challenges within the current local job market—particularly the high rate of youth unemployment and the limited access to job opportunities,” she said.
According to Awara, the company’s focus on an environmentally conscious business model is designed not only to spur growth but also to attract increased international partnerships and investments.
Awara holds a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Royal Holloway, University of London, and a Diploma in Software Engineering from Imperial College London.
“Beyond my academic background, I had the privilege of working closely with both my father and mother in the management of the business. Their extensive expertise in business operations and strategic leadership has greatly influenced my approach and deepened my understanding of effective business management,” she added.
“We sympathise with the difficulties young people face in trying to carve a path in today’s economy. A key vision my father had for this company was not only to build a successful business but also to empower youth by providing access to jobs, supporting entrepreneurs, and contributing to broader economic growth.”
She noted that through its operations, Beresford Wines has created employment opportunities in logistics, administration, and marketing. “We also partner with a network of local distributors, retailers, and hospitality businesses—many of whom are young Nigerian entrepreneurs building careers or launching businesses of their own.”
“Our goal is to continue expanding our footprint in ways that uplift communities, foster skill development, and give our youth a platform to thrive.”
Awara also revealed that the company recently secured exclusive distribution rights for SIGLO (a prestigious Spanish wine), AMORIK (an award-winning French whiskey), and Leon LAUNOIS (a luxury Champagne house with deep heritage).
“These partnerships are a testament to our credibility in the industry and our commitment to offering Nigerian consumers access to world-class alcoholic beverages. At Beresford, we bring foreign-born wines home—crafting experiences that are international in quality but unmistakably Nigerian at heart.”
“Without a doubt, these brands combine heritage, quality, and exclusivity—three fundamental values Nigerian luxury consumers hold dear. At Beresford, we believe that in today’s sophisticated market, luxury is not only about the product but also the experience. That’s why we align with only premier alcoholic brands that deliver unmatched experiences. SIGLO’s timeless Spanish roots, AMORIK’s unique Breton craftsmanship, and Leon LAUNOIS’ heritage Champagne perfectly match that demand.”
“We are confident these brands will thrive and set new benchmarks in the Nigerian market.”
“This is a goal we are passionate about. While we may not solve the problem single-handedly, we are deeply committed to being part of the solution. Beyond direct employment, we are creating entrepreneurial opportunities through our various departments, including marketing, promotion, and distribution.”
“At Beresford, we are keen on keeping the youth engaged—scouting for fresh, innovative minds to help navigate changing markets. With adequate support, our industry can serve as a bridge between talent and economic empowerment for Nigerian youth.”
She called on the government to implement clear and consistent trade policies, provide support to local distribution networks, offer incentives for youth with entrepreneurial ambitions—particularly in the hospitality sector—and regulate rising tariffs.
