From Local Projects to Cross-Border Expansion: The Path of Oluwaseyi Abiodun Soyebo

By Tosin Clegg

Oluwaseyi Abiodun Soyebo’s journey in civil engineering is one marked by steady progress, a focus on quality, and a growing footprint in the construction industry. As the CEO of PDEUO Construction Company Ltd, a firm established in Lagos, Nigeria, and now operating in both Nigeria and the United States, Soyebo has taken a practical approach to building a career and a business that spans borders.

Soyebo’s interest in civil engineering developed early. After earning a National Diploma from the Osun State College of Technology, Esa-Oke, and a Higher National Diploma in Civil Engineering from The Polytechnic, Ibadan, he gained hands-on experience through industrial training with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). These foundational years gave him exposure to real-world construction practices and introduced him to the demands of infrastructure development in varied contexts.

In 2015, Soyebo founded PDEUO’s Construction Company Ltd in Lagos with the aim of offering reliable, efficient, and safety-conscious engineering services. The company began by handling small-to-medium-scale residential and commercial projects in Nigeria’s southwest, gradually earning a reputation for timely delivery and practical cost management.

Some of PDEUO’s early notable projects include:
A 16-unit duplex development at Crown Reality Estate in Sangotedo.

A 4-bedroom bungalow in Mopo Village, Lagos.
An 8-unit residential estate in Mabushi, Abuja.
These projects highlighted the firm’s competence in both urban and peri-urban construction, especially in residential real estate.

Expansion into the U.S. Market
With a few successful years in Nigeria, Soyebo began exploring opportunities to expand his operations. Leveraging professional connections and market research, he established PDEUO’s presence in the United States, registering the company to explore collaborative contracts, sourcing materials, and participating in construction-related training.
The expansion was not driven by rapid scaling but by calculated growth seeking to understand regulatory standards, safety expectations, and client requirements across both regions. This binational positioning now enables PDEUO to operate with flexibility, adapt designs to varying codes, and offer services to clients with cross-border interests.

Professional Development and Industry Participation
Throughout his career, Soyebo has placed strong emphasis on continuous professional development. In recent years, he has completed several industry-relevant diplomas and certifications including:

Construction Safety Management
Structural Dynamics,
Wastewater Recycling and Reuse,Cybersecurity and Data Analysis (via TAFE Queensland, Australia)
These trainings have enabled him to adapt to modern challenges, including environmental sustainability and digital integration in construction.
Soyebo is also an active member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers, where he participates in conferences, seminars, and professional networking activities.

Leadership and Community Engagement
Before his professional career took full shape, Soyebo served as the President of the National Association of Ogun State Students (NAOSS) at The Polytechnic, Ibadan Chapter. This experience informed his leadership style, which combines a strong work ethic with mentorship and team development.

He has since received recognition including:
The CED Magazine Professional Service Award of Excellence (2024)
A Rotary Club Award for contributions to civil works and community projects
In addition to his technical and managerial roles, Soyebo has led infrastructural work at Dowen College Lagos, contributing over a decade of service to educational facility development.

Looking Ahead
Today, Soyebo’s focus is on stabilizing PDEUO’s operations across both continents, strengthening local project execution in Nigeria while building networks and partnerships in the U.S. His path reflects the realities of navigating construction in emerging and developed markets each with unique expectations but shared goals of quality and safety.
While he avoids media fanfare, Soyebo is quietly building a company with cross-regional relevance anchored in experience, guided by practical knowledge, and open to the evolving landscape of global construction.
