The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP), has called on delegates and all members of the PDP to start mobilising for the party’s National Convention scheduled to hold from Thursday 28th to Saturday 30th August 2025.
The CP-PDP applauded the party for overcoming its challenges to successfully convene the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Tuesday 27th May 2025 which, among other things and in line with the provisions of the Constitution of the PDP, approved the conduct of an early National Convention in August to elect new national officers for the party.
Commending the August 28th to 30th National Convention, in a statement by its Protem National Coordinator, Barrister Obinna Nwachukwu, CP-PDP said as a step in the right direction, the Conference also noted that a majority of party members and indeed Nigerians believed that an early National Convention was a sure headway for the PDP to commence a clean leadership repositioning ahead of the 2027 general election.
The CP-PDP expressed confidence in the ability of the Governor Ahmadu Fintiri-led National Convention Organizing Committee and Governor Douye Diri-led Zoning Committee to deliver a top-notch, transparent and credible National Convention that would reflect the values and ideals of the PDP as a democratic party.
The Conference counseled the party leaders to note that Nigerians expect the PDP to prioritise merit, experience, institution memory and commitment above sectional and other divisive consideration in electing national officers at the August National Convention.
”This position is predicated on the fact that the leadership to be elected at the August National Convention will be vested with the highly demanding task of leading the party to victory in the 2027 general election; a task that requires experience and requisite skills to deliver,” it stated.
The Conference therefore urged party stakeholders and delegates to set aside sentiments and focus on the bigger picture and collective interest of the party and the nation ahead of the National Convention.
It further said it was optimistic that the National Convention would lay the pathway for the party to redefine itself in the quest to recover power and restore a purposeful people-based government in our country.
