NIHTE collaborates with FG to improve road infrastructure, sustainability through trainings

The Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers (NIHTE) has emphasised its commitment to collaborate with the Federal Ministry of Works (FMW) and the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) towards improving the state of roads and its infrastructural conditions in Nigeria.
The National Chairman of NIHTE, Engr. Francis Oriakhi led a high calibre team of the Institution comprising of the pioneer Chairman of the Institution, Engr. Isa Emoabino, the immediate past National Chairman of the Institution, Engr. Seidu Hassan and a member of the board of trustees of the Institution, Engr.Thomas Eyo on a courtesy call to the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Works, Engr. Olufunso Adebiyi and the Managing Director of FERMA, Engr. Dr. Emeka Agbasi.
During the courtesy calls, the National Chairman, Engr. Francis Oriakhi stressed the need for a re focus of building, maintaining roads and its infrastructure for sustainability.
The national Chairman, Engr. Oriakhi briefed his hosts of the upcoming training and workshop scheduled for 11th to 14th August, 2025. The international workshop with the theme – ‘Managing Road Infrastructure Assets For Sustainability’ is to be organised, facilitated and delivered by a reputable world acclaimed roads, bridges and transportation training experts – the International Road Federation (IRF) in collaboration with NIHTE.
The bulk of the Road and Highway Engineers for the training/workshop is expected from the Federal Ministry of Works (FMW), Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) and other related government road maintenance agencies in Nigeria.
The chairman, Engr. Oriakhi furthermore outlined that the institution is engaging various stakeholders in the road and transportation industry for collaboration to achieving sustainable roads and effective transportation systems.
The NIHTE national Chairman reiterated that the institution is dialoguing with law makers in the National Assembly (NAAS) to revisit the road reform bills earlier submitted by the institution as a positive step in the effective funding of road projects and their maintenance in the country generally.
He stressed that the bills are to help reduce or eliminate the bottle necks as presently experienced in our road funding, delivery and maintenance for sustainability.
