CIPM Reaffirms Leadership in People Management at 56th AGM, Announces Record Growth and Strategic Partnerships

The Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), the foremost regulatory body for human resources management in Nigeria, reaffirmed its leadership in people management across Africa at its 56th Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on May 8, 2025, showcasing record-breaking achievements in membership growth, digital transformation, and strategic global partnerships.

In his address, the Institute’s president, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, highlighted that 2,080 new members joined the Institute between September 2024 and April 2025, underscoring renewed trust in the future of people management in Nigeria. He also revealed that student registrations rose by 17%, inducted members by 43%, and membership upgrades by 27%, including a 33% increase in Full Member to Fellow transitions.

The meeting also marked a significant democratic milestone for the Institute, recording the highest number of votes in its electoral history with 1,678 accredited voters and 1,623 votes cast. Mallam Ladan was re-elected as President with 1,438 votes, while Mrs. Chidinma Justina Obiejesi, FCIPM, and Mrs. Egbuonu Ogochukwu Udogadi, FCIPM, were re-elected as Vice President and National Treasurer with 1,403 and 1,394 votes, respectively.

Newly elected council members include Mrs. Faruk Sa’adatu Asabe (1,173 votes), Mr. Badiru Sean Olabode (1,114), Mr. Adeyemi Akinfeyi Ajayi (1,104), Dr. Michael Ogu (1,045), and Comrade Osahon Omole (867).

A standout feature of the past year was the Institute’s expanded geographical reach, with first-ever induction ceremonies held in Abuja, Abia, Osun, and Akwa Ibom States. This regional expansion included the reactivation of public service pathways via the Abuja induction, revitalizing connections to the military and paramilitary sectors.

CIPM also solidified its voice in public sector reform by contributing to the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (FCSSIP25) through appointments to the “War Rooms” on Capability Building, Talent Management, and Performance Management. Internationally, the Institute secured an additional seat on the African Human Resources Confederation (AHRC)

Board and signed a landmark Mutual Recognition of Membership Agreement with the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), UK.

Other global partnerships include strategic collaborations with HRCI USA, Lagos Business School, and Business Round Table Consult, enhancing the Institute’s learning and development portfolio.

In terms of digital transformation, CIPM launched three innovative platforms: the CIPM Members Portal for seamless engagement, a robust e-voting platform to ensure transparency in elections, and a new Examination Portal set for full deployment by the June 2025 Examination Diet.

The Institute also recognised exceptional branch performance. The CIPM Delta State Branch emerged as the best-performing branch, followed by CIPM Ogun Branch, CIPM Oyo State Branch, and CIPM Rivers State Branch. CIPM Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, and Abuja branches were awarded for most improved performance, with Adamawa climbing from 21st to 12th position.

The AGM underscored CIPM’s commitment to institutional excellence, global relevance, and data-driven human resource practices, exemplified by the continued publication of its Annual HR Needs Practice Survey Report and the inauguration of its United States branch.

With an ambitious agenda and an expanding footprint, the CIPM continues to set the benchmark for professional excellence in people management across Nigeria and beyond.
