The Association of Telecoms Companies of Nigeria (ATCON), has re-elected its president and other executive members for a second tenure of two years, during its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM), which held in Lagos.

The re-elected president, Mr. Tony Izuagbe Emoekpere, who promised to work with the newly elected ATCON executives to reinvigorate the association and take it to a greater height, also assured the public that the new executives would immediately swing into action to address the issue of telecoms infrastructure in the industry.

According to him, some of the major challenges facing the industry are the issue of fibre cut, infrastructure rollout and protection of critical national infrastructure.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, last year, promulgated the Critical National Information and Infrastructure (CNII) Bill, but we as an advocacy group of ATCON, want effective implementation of the Bill with immediate effect, in order to protect telecoms infrastructure across the country. In our next annual event with ICT Commissioners from all the 36 states, we will be inviting agencies of government, including Ministry of Works at the state and federal levels, including road construction companies and other relevant stakeholders, to discuss the issue of implementation of the CNII Bill and present our position statement on the implementation of the CNII Bill to the federal government,” Emoekpere said.

Shortly after the re-election, Emoekpere quickly set up a constitution review committee that will review ATCON’s Constitution, with a view to giving the association the legality to push and implement laws that will address industry challenges.
