The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has extended its condolences to the Afenifere socio-cultural group, the Yoruba nation, and the family of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, following the passing of the elder statesman at the age of 96.

In a statement signed by National Coordinator, CNG Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, CNG expressed its sorrow over the death of another national figure, Chief Edwin Clark, leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), who died at the age of 97.

CNG acknowledged Adebanjo’s lifelong dedication to equity, justice, and national unity, describing him as a stalwart of Nigeria’s political and socio-cultural landscape. The group noted that his unwavering commitment to these principles remained evident even in his final moments.

Similarly, the group recognized Edwin Clark as a respected mediator and advocate for the Niger Delta region. CNG praised his efforts in championing the interests of his people amidst the country’s socio-economic and political challenges.

Despite differing viewpoints on national issues, the coalition acknowledged both Adebanjo and Clark as compatriots who worked relentlessly to defend the rights and welfare of their respective regions while contributing to national discourse.

“Their legacies of service, courage, and principled leadership will forever remain in Nigeria’s history,” the statement read. “CNG recognizes the profound loss this represents to the Yoruba nation, the Niger Delta, and the country as a whole.”

The group extended its solidarity to the families of both leaders and prayed for the Almighty to grant them the strength to bear the losses. It also expressed hope that their visions for a just, equitable, and prosperous Nigeria would endure for future generations.
