Aggrieved IBEDC Workers Seek FG’s Intervention As Protest Continues in Ibadan
Protesting workers of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) Monday, sought the intervention of the Federal Government over what they described as poor condition of service as they continued with their protest in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
The protesting workers, who took over the company’s premises along 14th Avenue, J.K.P Close, Oluyole Main Estate, Ibadan, have threatened that the protest, which started last week would continue until their demands are met.
The category of workers involved in the protest included casual workers in all IBEDC franchise, including Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Kwara and parts of Niger, Ekiti and Kogi States.
According to one of the protesters, Abdulazeez Kazeem, who spoke with journalists, the aggrieved workers were allegedly recruited by Premier International Procurement Logistics Limited (PIPLL) as the outsourcing agent that conducted recruitment service for IBEDC, and for many years, they have been working for the electricity distribution company without any promotion or wage increase.
On her part, a protester, Mrs. Folashade Tolulope, disclosed that as casual workers, they have been on a meagre salary structure for about 10 years without any effort to improve the situation, just as they have been neglected for consideration as permanent staff with better working conditions.
Efforts to speak with the management of Premier International Procurement Logistics Limited (PIPLL) on the development however proved abortive.
