Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy Concludes Four-Day Leadership Seminar on Ethical Governance

The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy (LJLA), a foremost leadership development initiative focused on cultivating visionary leaders for public service in Nigeria, has concluded its quarterly Leadership Seminar titled “Leadership, Values and the Good Society”. Held from January 7 to 10, 2025, at the Public Service Staff Development Centre (PSSDC), in Lagos, the seminar brought together the Academy’s 30 Fellows for an intensive exploration of leadership principles and ethical governance.

At its core, LJLA is driven by a mission to cultivate a new generation of visionary leaders equipped with both technical knowledge and deep-rooted values of integrity, innovation, and public service.

The seminar, facilitated by distinguished experts, provided invaluable insights into the complexities of governance and ethical leadership, enriching the Fellows’ learning experience.

The seminar’s innovative curriculum combined classical philosophical texts with contemporary governance challenges, fostering critical thinking and practical problem-solving.

Fellows examined works by renowned thinkers such as: Aristotle, Karl Marx, Rachel Carson, and Mencius, connecting them to real-world leadership dilemmas, and engaged in discussions on topics such as:
Inclusive leadership that serves all segments of society.
The balance between liberty, rights, and equality in governance.
Building robust systems for accountability to ensure societal prosperity.
The interplay of liberty, equality, community, and efficiency in creating a thriving society.

“The Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy was founded to inspire a new generation of leaders who champion integrity, innovation, and inclusivity in public service,” said Ayisat Agbaje-Okunade, the Executive Secretary, Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy. “In a world increasingly shaped by uncertainty and rapid change, leadership rooted in ethical values and a deep understanding of governance is essential.”

“This seminar represents the cornerstone of our vision to cultivate leadership that addresses the complexities of governance while upholding the values necessary for societal progress.

“By providing an avenue for Fellows to engage with timeless principles of leadership while grappling with real-world challenges, we are equipping young leaders not just to navigate their communities, but to transform them with confidence and purpose.”

This Leadership Seminar is part of LJLA’s ongoing efforts to provide Fellows with transformative learning experiences that blend theoretical insights with practical governance skills.

Throughout their one-year fellowship program, LJLA will continue to engage Fellows in real-world leadership challenges, further solidifying its commitment to fostering leadership that promotes integrity, inclusivity, and societal progress.

This quarterly seminar marks another milestone in the Academy’s series of initiatives aimed at reshaping leadership in Nigeria and Africa at large.
