LAGGS Holds 70th Inter-house Sports Competition January 23
The 70th annual Inter-house Sports competition of the Lagos Anglican Girls Grammar School, 19, Akinhanmi Street, Surulere, will be holding on Thursday, January 23, at the schools’ sports ground under the chairmanship of LAGGSOGA United Kingdom and Ireland branch, Mrs. Augustina Makasy.
According to the organisers, this year’s Inter-house sports competition, which coincide with the school’s 70th anniversary, promises to be one of its kind.
Six houses, which are: Olumide House (Blue), Fagbemi House (Green), Showande House (Red), Oluwole House (Pink), Ayedun House (Purple), Obasa House (Yellow) would be jostling for honours under a competitive but friendly atmosphere.
Some of the events that would be competed for include; the traditional match past, 100m, 200m, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay, long jump, amongst many others.
If the results from the heat in anything to go by, Green House is the house to beat come Thursday as it tops with six gold, two silver and two bronze medals, followed closely by Blue House with five gold, four silver and one bronze medals.
Sitting in third position at the end of the heat is Pink House after amassing two gold, two silver and six bronze medals, while Yellow House is fourth with one gold, four silver and two bronze medals.
Purple House and Red House are placed fifth and sixth having amassed one gold, three silver and six bronze medals and one gold, one silver and one bronze medal, respectively.
In a chat with THISDAY, the Assistant Coordinator of Green House, Mrs. Wunmi Popoola, said it’s not by chance that the house is topping the medals’ table after the heat, but was as a result of the hard work put in by everyone involved.
“Our desire in Green House, is to ensure that we maintain the top spot after the Inter House Sport. We have put every machinery in place to ensure our desires are met. All our athletes participating in the various events are well prepared for the D-day,” Popoola said.
