Cybersecurity Specialist Austin Orumwense Strengthens Digital Resilience in UK, Africa
By Ugo Aliogo
UK-based Nigerian cybersecurity specialist, Austin Orumwense, is strengthening digital resilience, combining innovation with inclusion in the UK and Africa.
Orumwense is founder of AstroSec Group, who has built a platform empowers the next generation of professionals, and provides small and medium-sized businesses in Nigeria and the UK with protection against increasingly sophisticated digital threats.
AstroSec has grown into a hub where education connects directly with real-world applications. The initiative offers mentorship, hands-on training, and internship opportunities to students and young professionals eager to enter the cybersecurity field.
It also delivers tailored security toolkits and training for SMEs, many of whom lack access to enterprise-level defences, ensuring they are not left vulnerable in a rapidly changing threat landscape.
Speaking about his vision, Orumwense emphasised the importance of bridging the gap between innovation and inclusion. “Cybersecurity should not be seen as a privilege for large corporations alone. Small businesses and underrepresented communities face threats every day, and they deserve access to practical tools, training, and protection,” he said.
Beyond AstroSec, Orumwense plays an active role in shaping the academic direction of cybersecurity education. As a member of the Industry Advisory Board at the University of Greater Manchester, he works with educators to align curricula with real-world challenges, helping to ensure that graduates leave with skills relevant to employers and the wider digital economy.
His research supports this practical focus. His work on advanced persistent threat (APT) detection has been accepted for publication in the International Journal of Innovative Science and Research Technology (IJISRT).
His earlier study on the RF Editable Display Board, published on Afribary, Africa’s leading online research and learning platform, has been accessed by more than 3,000 users and is widely used by students and researchers, reflecting both its educational value and its relevance to the technology community.
With an MSc in Cloud and Network Security (Distinction) from the University of Bolton, Orumwense combines deep technical expertise with a passion for community empowerment.
His commitment to driving innovation while championing digital inclusion remains unwavering, a reflection of both his global influence and his local impact in communities.
As AstroSec continues to expand its reach, Austin’s influence is expected to deepen. By combining innovation with inclusivity, he is emerging as a respected voice in cybersecurity, helping to drive change that protects people, strengthens businesses, and supports entire communities.
