By Emmanuel Daraloye
“For You’re Glorious” is not just a choral display of harmonies and symphonies, but a celestial outcry of worship, borne out of the place of solemnity and appreciation. Seyi Israel did not start with a repeated call of the word, “Glory,” but with the ethereal wonder which the word embodies in the spiritual realm. Each note unfurls like incense, rising beyond the walls of melody into the boundless sky of devotion. In this sacred rendering, the song becomes less of performance and more of a divine dialogue between the mortal and the eternal.
The August 15, 2024 gospel release is embellished with skylark-like responses to Seyi’s calls by the sonorous backup singers. Solemnity settles in the atmosphere with the sound of the keyboard, while it is accompanied by the joyful rage of rising hi-hats, and later the boomerang of the Toms. The full drum set rolls in, thumping softly at some moments. The lead voice soars above it all, carrying both reverence and energy in every note. In that union of sound, the song transforms into an encounter, drawing listeners into another realm like ecstasy.
However, at the 3:14 mark, sanctity gaits in again, with tongues, clappings, and voices till the 4:30 mark, which obviously makes the song sink the listener’s heart to sobriety and appreciation at the same time. The listener’s atmosphere becomes one of deep reverence, where every sound feels like an offering. It leaves the listener with a lingering sense of awe that continues beyond the song’s end. To some, it would feel like an oxymoron, but while it might seem like it, it is beyond a figurative expression. The song is a celestial expression, and only those in the spirit can call to the spirit.
Seyi Israel’s adaptation of “For You Are Glorious” is still pure adoration, as its lyrics directly address the divine, lifting a worshiper’s heart from the temporal to the throne of God. It presents God as the sovereign King of Kings, enthroned in splendor and deserving of infinite worship. The recurring phrase, “…and worthy to be praised,” is a rhythmic heartbeat of reverence, grounding the song’s focus on God’s immense worthiness. In its simple profoundness, it becomes both a whisper of personal prayer and a chorus for all, an anthem for the soul.
Again, Seyi Israel re-echoes “For You Are Glorious,” reflecting the wonder of Exodus 15:11, where God is revealed as unmatched in holiness, worthy of praise, and mighty in power. Like the Israelites after the Red Sea, the song invites listeners into awe, reminding us that no one compares to the King on the throne. More than music, it becomes an altar of devotion where harmonies rise like incense and lyrics echo truth. Each note shifts the moment from performance to encounter, balancing reverence and energy until the heart is anchored in God’s glory. It is both personal and communal, carrying worshippers into a chorus of worship and leaving a spiritual experience that lingers after the music fades.
