Slickfit introduces the Zamani Collection

Josephine Agbonkhese

For a debut, Slickfit’s Zamani collection shows unusual restraint in embellishment and silhouette. Instead of chasing spectacle, the brand, founded in 2019, presents six suits that hinge on precision, fabric, and structure. It is a collection where subtle details, like tailoring and fabric texture are revealed on closer inspection, and this careful focus alone says much about the identity Slickfit wants to build.

The standout of the collection is the midnight-blue velvet suit. The jacket’s surface is scattered with jewel-toned accents that glimmer faintly under light. It avoids being overly decorative while still offering depth and visual interest. The tailoring keeps the jacket close to the body without stiffness, and the trousers maintain a sharp, straight silhouette. This suit demonstrates how careful attention to cut and detail can elevate an already rich fabric.

The black suit strips everything down to near-minimal form. Its cropped double-breasted jacket, held together by a slim fastening at the waist, alters the proportions in a way that feels precise and intentional. Worn without a shirt, the suit explores formality in a restrained way, showing quiet boldness through minimal detailing. It is the most daring look in the collection, not through colour or pattern, but through subtle deviation from traditional tailoring.

The navy suit revisits classic menswear tailoring with careful exactness. Paired with a checked shirt and tie, it relies entirely on cut and proportion. The shoulder sits square, the lapels curve with control, and the trousers maintain a clean, straight silhouette. Its precise cut conveys a composed, structured silhouette, making it a clear example of the brand’s emphasis on meticulous craftsmanship.

Still, the collection is not without its gaps. The same restraint that gives Zamani its sharpness also makes it feel cautious. The suits are clean and well-executed, but one wonders what the collection might have looked like with bolder experiments in cut, structure, or detail. A wider exploration of shapes or unique choices could have pushed the collection further, giving Slickfit a stronger voice in an already crowded field.

Zamani is a measured collection that emphasizes precision and attention to detail. It does not attempt to redefine the suit, nor does it hide behind empty gestures of innovation. Instead, it gives us three well-executed directions: richness in velvet, simplicity in black, and classic-cut navy tailoring. Each shows a different strength, balancing subtle experimentation with reliable execution. As a debut, it is not flawless, but it is precise, and worth paying attention to.
