Terminal Africa Celebrates Female Employees
To commemorate International Women’s Day, Terminal Africa, an aggregator logistics software company, hosted its female staff for a lunch timeout with Solape Akipelu, CEO and CoFounder Hervest.
Speaking to the IWD theme, Solape stated that a techsis isn’t only a woman who codes, but is creative enough to innovate ideas and execute them. Regardless of the role a lady occupies, she is a techsis because she contributes to the technical solutions of a company. She went ahead to share her personal story, highlighting the importance of community support. She also stated the essence of carefully articulating goals and aspirations, and mapping out future plans in a bid to rise above societal labels and stereotypes that women have been tagged with.

Referencing her new book Stripped: An African woman’s guide to building generational wealth, Solape stated that “a woman without money is a woman without a choice” highlighting the importance of not just making money for the present but learning to build wealth for the future. The conversation was a rich blend of self-discovery, financial enlightenment, career development and personal growth.
On achieving equality, Grace Obieri (frontend engineer) posits that a drive to remove unconscious biases in hiring process, and inclusion of diversity initiatives in company’s culture might be the foundation to bridging the gender equity gap, while Oluchi Ezugwu (social media manager) stated that spreading the gospel of building a career in technology for younger girls will make a huge impact in the world.
On the best ways to ensure equity in the tech industry, Busola Collins, HR manager proposes the need for mentorship/sponsorship programs, in a supportive work environment that addresses unconscious biases and gender stereotypes. Grace Obieri, the frontend engineer believes that women have an active role to play in achieving this goal by positioning themselves to seize the opportunities available within the digital space.
Tobiloba Olaosun, the Marketing Manager, shared that equity within an organization can only be effective if it is embraced by top management as part of the company culture thereby empowering employees across different grades to embrace and appreciate their unique strengths.
