Gabriel Abhulimen: Transforming FinTech Through User-Centric Product Management”
Tosin Clegg
When Gabriel Abhulimen joined Iobyte as a Product Manager, he brought with him a vision: to make financial technology accessible, intuitive, and user-centric. Having spent years in customer-focused roles, Gabriel understands the power of empathy and data better than most. In a candid conversation with Business Insider Africa, he shares his journey, his vision for FinTech, and his dedication to mentoring the next wave of product leaders.
Gabriel’s entry into the world of FinTech began years ago in customer service roles, where he learned firsthand what users needed. “Customer support isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about understanding them deeply,” Gabriel says. From there, he moved on to customer experience and then product management, refining his skills at every stage.
Iobyte’s customers are already seeing the benefits of Gabriel’s experience with the launch of “FastPay,” a feature that halves transaction time, making payments faster and easier. “Speed is everything in FinTech,” he explains. “We used customer feedback and data analytics to develop a feature that addresses this need directly.” FastPay has been adopted by over 60% of Iobyte’s users within just three months of its launch—a powerful testament to Gabriel’s ability to blend customer insights with technological innovation.
In addition to his role at Iobyte, Gabriel is dedicated to mentorship. His User Experience Bootcamp has become a beacon for aspiring Product Managers, offering hands-on experience in data interpretation and design principles. “There’s a gap in understanding how data informs user experience,” he notes. His two eBooks—The Role of User Experience in Product Management and The Role Data Plays in Driving User Experience for a Product—serve as practical guides for Product Managers looking to bridge this gap. Through these resources, Gabriel has established himself not only as a product innovator but also as a mentor committed to raising the standards in product management.
Gabriel’s journey is a testament to the impact that empathy, data, and mentorship can have on FinTech. With plans to develop more accessible financial tools, Gabriel is poised to make an even greater impact in the coming years.
