Gbajabiamila Wins APC Ticket as House Spokesman Emerges Candidate for Bende

Femi Gbajabiamila has won unopposed for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Surulere 1 Federal Constituency.The primary election took place at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, yesterday. Gbajabiamila is the candidate of the APC, who has been the member representing the federal constituency since 2003, seeking to return to the House for a historic sixth term.According to one of the delegates, Mrs. Bamidele Hussein, the Speaker deserves the peoples backing because of all he has done for the constituency. “This is in appreciation of what he has done for us in Surulere. He brought a lot: of empowerment, free medical services¸ reconstruction of many roads with solar lights, building and renovation of schools, supply of educational materials, both electronic and others, to students and teachers, and he equipped existing hospitals and built new ones. Look, he has done a lot and has positively touched the lives of all in Surulere beyond our expectations. Surulere loves him,” she said. In a related development, the House Spokesman Hon. Benjamin Kalu emerged APC candidate to represent Bende Federal Constituency at the Green Chambers of the National Assembly. The election which was conducted under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral (INEC), and monitored by the Nigerian Police Force (NPF), the Department of Security Service (DSS), and Nigerian Civil Defence Corps began at about 11a.m. with accreditation of delegates commencing at 11:58a.m., voting began at 12:29p.m. and was concluded by 1:43p.m. The APC delegates from the 13 wards of Bende Federal Constituency yesterday gathered at Agbamuzu Bende in Bende Local Government Area to elect their party flag bearer. Announcing the result, the Chairman, Electoral Committee and the Returning Officer for APC House of Representatives primary election in Bende Federal Constituency, Hon. Chibuike Jonas, announced the results as follows: “total No of delegates: 70, accredited- 66, void votes – 12, votes for Kalu – 54”. In his acceptance speech, Kalu appreciated the delegates for trusting him with their mandate again, assuring Bende constituents of his preparedness to win the elections come 2023 and his unwavering commitment to continue attracting more dividends of democracy to Bende Federal Constituency and Abia in general. |
