Lawan Reads Buhari’s Letter Refusing Assent to Electoral Bill

President of the Senate, Dr Ahmad Lawan, has read the letter from President Muhammadu Buhari refusing assent to the Electoral Act Amendment Bill sent to him on November 19, 2021.
Lawan who read the President’s communication at the resumption of Senate plenary on Tuesday quoted President Buhari to have said he was withholding Assent to the Bill based on advice from informed quarters.
He listed reasons for declining assent to include the fact that provision for direct primary was against freedom of association and undemocratic to impose such on political parties.
