The Ekiti State Commissioner for Infrastructures and Public Utilities, Mr. Bamidele Faparusi, has resigned his position to pursue his 2022 governorship ambition.
Faparusi, who hails from Ode Ekiti Headquarters of Ayekire Local Government Area of Ekiti State, conveyed his resignation to Governor Kayode Fayemi in a letter dated December 14, 2021 and was acknowledged on Friday, December 17.
Sensing that some members of his cabinet were interested in the 2022 governorship election, Fayemi had a couple of weeks ago given ultimatum of December 18 for such individuals to resign.
In the resignation letter made available to journalists in Ado Ekiti, on Sunday, Faparusi, who has been a vociferous pro-zoning agitator from the Ekiti South Senatorial district, hinged his action on interest to participate in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary slated for January 22, 2022.
The letter reads: “It is with great pleasure that I write to thank you for the vote of confidence passed in me to represent the good people of Ayekire Local Government Area in the State Executive Council and served as the political head of the Ministry of Infrastructures and Public Utilities, which is pivotal in the development agenda of this administration.
“Under your proactive leadership, I had the rare opportunity to consolidate on my cognate experience, broaden my perspective and build capacities in the service to the people, which are the basis of my decision to vie for the governorship seat following extensive consultations with the people and critical stakeholders.
“Further to your directive and other considerations, I wish to convey my decision to resign from the government to enable me focus on the intense work required to make our party walk to victory at the poll.
“Your Excellency, I am most grateful to you and particularly take this opportunity to thank you for the assurances of your unalloyed supports, as I once again reaffirm my loyalty to you and my commitment to the progress of our great party and Ekiti State.
“Please, Your Excellency, accept the assurances of my highest regards.”
The immediate past Secretary to the Ekiti State Government and APC Governorship Aspirant, Hon. Biodun Oyebanji, had also quitted Fayemi’s cabinet to pursue similar ambition.
Faparusi was elected a member of House of Representatives in 2011, where he represented Ekiti East/Gbonyin/Emure federal constituency for four years.
He has also been a vanguard in the agitation for the zoning of APC governorship ticket to the South Senatorial district, where he and others hail from in the spirit of equity, justice and fair play.
