The Kano/Jigawa Customs Area Command has generated over N25.3 billion as revenue from January 2021 to date.
The Area Command’s Comptroller, Sulaiman Pai Umar made the disclosure while addressing newsmen in Kano on Thursday said the amount generated was higher than that of last year (2020) which stood at N24.4 billion.
He said the Command has continuously engaged in sensitizing the public on the need to clear their goods through the inland terminals.
“The effort led to the increased patronage and has reflected positively in the revenue collection of the Command,” the Comptroller said.
He explained that the Command had within the period under review made a total of 398 seizures with a duty paid value of N1.021,556,789.90 billion.
Umar said no fewer than 10 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures adding that some of the suspects were handed over to relevant agencies for further investigation and prosecution, others were granted administrative bail while other cases are still pending in Court.
He commended the officers and men of the Area Command for their effort in actualisation of the successes recorded in the period under review.
“We will continue to utilize our intelligence gathering techniques and deploy our strength and available logistics to ensure success in the battle against smugglers and economic saboteurs.
He used the occasion to warn recalcitrant smugglers who feel they could always have their ways against our officers that the Command would definitely uncover their illegal acts, make arrests and inflict financial loss on such ventures.
He said the Command would continue to work tirelessly to ensure the officers carry out their anti-smuggling and revenue collection activities with utmost professionalism.
