A Delta -based campaign group, Majemite, has disregarded a report by the screening commitment of Delta Central-2023 (DC-23), identifying the right personality for the governorship seat in Delta State by 2023.
A statement by the group’s Campaign Manager and Head of Media/ Public Communication, Ovie Edomi, alleged that the report was stage managed to favour a particular candidate, adding that it does not reflect the position of majority Deltans.
Edomi, who is also the Publisher/ Editor-In-Chief of South-South International added that the report was largely condemned on the ground that it listed five aspirants without stating the creteria for their selection.
The statement revealed that “it was being touted that DC-23 had confided in a respected cleric in the land and that the screening committee was being influenced. This control of the committee by some external forces informed the last- minute inclusion of a strange aspirant who attended the screening exercise only once.
“Although, it is believed that the screening committee comprises academics, clerics and other distinguished personalities, its major weakness was the non-inclusion of civil rights organisation in its membership in addition to inviting the press to cover the screening exercises to give the entire process some credibility.”
The statement added that “the pendulum of opinion in Delta State favours Olorogun Fred Majemite, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member and an indigene of the Urhobo extraction of Delta State.
“However, the popular politician who is believed to be a man of peace, has said that he would continue to pursue his political ambition without any compromise to the peace of the state. Furthermore, power comes from God so some people should not attempt to kill the destinies of people who are qualified for certain positions.”
