Ascension Productions to Donate Play Proceeds to Orphanages, IDPs
The Ascension Productions, the entertainment arm of Ascension Ministry, says it will donate proceeds of its latest play to widow groups, orphanages and internally displaced persons (IDPs).
“We invite you and all, whilst being entertained, to spare a thought for less fortunate fellow countrymen and women: the growing millions in desperate poverty, unrelieved hardship and material deprivation at this time,” said Ascension Ministry.
The play ‘Shadows of The Ancestors’ by Onyechi Mbamali is a three-act “gripping tragedy that brings home the ugly pain of unguided youth idealism.”
According to the statement, the takeaway of the production “is that genuine peace is a social investment best fostered in harmony” when the counsel of elders moderates youthful passion through dialogue, consultation, and collaboration.
The play directed by Adeniran Makinde will star Norbert Young, Gloria Anozie Young, Kevin Ushi, Albert Akaeze, Bukola Ogunnote, Ikponmwosa Gold, Inna Erizia, Stanley Okeke, Efe Mayford Orhorha, among others.
“You are the captive audience, spellbound to a generational conflict of viewpoints, the spirited young versus the conservative old. Youth is typically radical, vibrant, and so sweetly full of energy,” said a statement by Ascension Productions. “But, its unbridled impatience with status quo is virtually a calamitous end foretold. You witness a troubling situation, not much, unlike the recent EndSARS imbroglio in our beloved country, Nigeria.”
It further noted that on offer, in the “classic play is a distinct and exciting celebration” of the power of language. Ascension Productions also stressed that the play would be “altogether a wordfest, tastefully amplifying the dire need for meaningful conversation and a consensus-building mindset at critical moments between old and young.”
On the bill are six separate presentations (3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. each day) running for three consecutive Sundays (December 5, 12 and 19, 2021) at the Glover Memorial Hall, Custom Road, Marina, Lagos with tickets at www.sotang.org, www.ariiyatickets.com, and www.nairabox.com.
