The prosecutor from the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Y. A. Suleman, yesterday told the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja that he would not be able to proceed with Evans’ case.
According to him, his witnesses were absent in court due to security reasons. Suleman stated that the witnesses were willing to make an appearance via Zoom, adding that the necessary applications would be brought before the court.
“The last witness to appear before the court faced some security challenges and we will not want a repeat of such challenges,” he said.
The first (Evans) and second (Joseph Emeka) defendants’ counsel, O. A. Talabi, and Emmanuel Osia, respectively, did not oppose Suleman’s application.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo thereafter adjourned the matter till November 29, 2021, for hearing of the said application.
Evans and Emeka were arraigned on seven counts bordering of kidnapping.
They were accused of kidnaping the Chairman of Young Shall Grow motors, Chief Vincent Obianodo.
Evans and five others are also facing another trial over kidnaping at the same court.
