Katsina PDP Faction Accuses Chairman of Rejecting reconciliation
By Francis Sardauna
The leadership crisis rocking the Katsina State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new dimension, as some aggrevieved members have accused the state chairman of the party, Mr. Salisu Yusuf Majigiri, of rejecting reconciliation.
The aggrieved members under the auspices of PDP Agyara, who claimed they are out to recalibrate the crisis besetting the party in line with its constitution and Electoral Act, said party issues could be better resolved politically instead of going to court.
Addressing journalists in Katsina, the Chairman, Reconciliation Committee of the group, Mr. Lawal Rufia Safana, explained that the Majigiri-led State Executive Committee has failed to honour the agreement reached despite series of reconciliation meetings.
The PDP leadership tussle emanated from its last state congresses, where some aggrieved members dragged the elected officials of the party to court over “illegalities” during the exercise.
Safana said: “An agreement which was accepted by our side even though it fell seriously short of what the PDP Agyara members would have desired, but which we still decided to accept in our wholehearted seriousness to resolve the issues and move the party forward.
“This agreement was ready to be signed when the group representing the dissolved executive committee members who actually drafted the agreement suddenly called us to a meeting only to tell us that they were no longer interested in any reconciliation processes.
“And that the issue should just be resolved by the courts. Thus, the said agreement to be signed, which we toiled strenuously to arrive at together, was by this surprise decision thrown to the dustbin.”
However, the state chairman, Majigiri, said he didn’t reject any reconciliation and he was ever ready to reconcile with any aggrieved member of the party for peace and unity to thrive.
According to him, “This is our seventh year in opposition, so if there is one person in Katsina that would love PDP to be one and united is me. So, anybody who says we are not ready for reconciliation is saying it out of sentiment.
“We are ready for reconciliation, we are ready to settle out of court and we didn’t even stop consulting the aggrieved people and we will continue to consult. And by God’s grace, we are going to resolve this issue out of court.”
