NIESV’s Group Educates Members on Intellectual Property

The Business Assets and Intellectual Property Valuation, Professional Group of Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) yesterday began a week-long programme tagged IP WEEK to educate members on their property rights.

According to a statement issued by the chairman of the group, Lekan Akinwumi, the virtual event is tagged; “Do you know you have IP? Have you valued it?” It will be draw speakers from different professional backgrounds, including Law, Accounting, Estate Surveying and Valuation and a few others.

While Barrister Nosakhare Uwadiae would be speaking on “Law and Valuation: the two sides of a coin in IP Commercialisation”, Mr. Tunji Aina shall be talking on “Accounting for and the Economic value of IP”, Yomi Ibisola shall address “Intangible asset Valuation Standards”.

In order to fulfill the mandate of the professional group, in training and retraining of members, the Continuous Professional Development shall hold on Thursday, September 9, 2021. Mr. Michael Akpan of the Nigerian Copyright Commission shall expatiate on the role of the Commission as “Nigeria Copyright Commission; the gate keeper of Nigerian IP.”

The economic benefit of the programme cannot be relegated to the background. Dr. Ashaolu T.A shall be delivering a paper on “Adopting Appropriate method of IP Valuation”.

The week-long programme shall be reviewed and the next plan for action shall be analyzed in a general meeting of the Professional Group on Friday, September 10, 2021.

“At the end of the programme, we would bring IP to the fore as a resource that can be used, managed and commercialised to provide economic, social and environmental benefits for government, the community and business, said the chairman.
