Gunmen Kidnap Nasarawa Electoral Commission’s Scribe

Gunmen in the late hours of Tuesday kidnapped the Secretary of the Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC), Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Opu, at his residence in Bakin Rijiya village, an outskirt of Lafia, the Nasarawa State’s capital.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Nasarawa State Police Command, ASP. Ramhan Nansel, confirmed the kidnap yesterday in a statement that was made available to journalists in Lafia.
Nansel added that the secretary of the NASIEC was kidnapped in his residence at Bakin Rijiya village, along Lafia-Shendam Road.
The statement read: “On 24/8/2021, at about 23.45 hrs, unknown gunmen numbering about five abducted one Mr. Mohammed Abubakar Opu, the secretary of the NASIEC in his residence located at Bakin Rijiya village, along Lafia-Shendam Road, Nasarawa State.
“On receipt of the complaints, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adesina Soyemi, immediately led a detachment of police personnel comprising of personnel of the Anti Kidnapping Unit, Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit and other tactical units of the command to the scene.”
Moreover, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) was directed to move to the scene and conduct a comprehensive investigation in order to unveil the faces of those responsible for the commission of the despicable act, rescue the victim and arrest the perpetrators.
