Anambra Poll: Collect Politicians’ Money, Vote Your Conscience, Ezeife Tells Youth

A former Governor of Anambra State, Chief Chukwuemeka Ezeife, has advised youth to vote according to their conscience and not continue to mortgage their future by allowing monetary and other materialism influence their choice of candidate in the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

Ezeife, while acknowledging that desperate politicians would go to any length to assume power, assured the youth that no harm could come upon anyone, who voted in line with his conscience, irrespective of whatever shrine they were taken for oath.

He spoke Tuesday evening in Abuja, at a youth summit on the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State.

“Take money from all the politicians who are giving you money if they tell you to jump over a coffin as an oath, jump that thing, the only thing that affects you is your conscience. If you vote according to your conscience, the money you are given, the oath you have taken are all of no use. The moment you vote according to your conscience, they all expire,” he said.

He commended those who cancelled the sit-at-home order, noting that it was a right step, because it made no sense for the Igbo to join outsiders to inflict more burden on an already marginalised zone.

In a paper titled: “Youth as Instrument of Credible Election and Their Right to Good Governance”, the presenter, Mathew Okeke urged voters to cast their votes for those who have shown character and capacity of taking Anambra State to the next level, adding that youth should not only vote but ensure that their votes counted.

He reminded the youth it was time to make their voices heard by demanding good governance from those they had elected to lead them.

Speaking on provision of security and welfare of citizens, which according to him is the core function of government both at the state and federal level, Okeke stated that although the current administration started well, it veered off tract along the way.

According to him, “The present administration was accused of narrowness, cronyism, nepotism, sectionalism and support for criminal elements. Initially, I thought that these accusations were mere political gimmicks of politicians, who were out of power until my younger brother was brutally murdered in my house in Anambra State.”

Okeke in further indicting the administration of failing in the aspect of security, disclosed that deliberate efforts were made to jeopardize investigation of the crime as well as prosecution of the defendants.

“In fact, the Director of Public Prosecution in Anambra State Ministry of Justice, recklessly told me that the accused persons will never be charged to court,” he claimed.
